Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started
The system supports a wide range of formats:
  • Documents: PDF, Microsoft Word (.docx, .doc), Excel (.xlsx, .xls)
  • CAD Files: DXF, DWG
  • Images: JPG, PNG, TIFF

For scanned documents or images of contracts, enable OCR during upload to extract the text.

Web browsers can only display certain file types directly. When you click Preview:
  • Opens in browser: PDFs and images (JPG, PNG, GIF)
  • Downloads instead: Word documents, Excel files, CAD files (.dxf, .dwg), and other formats

This is a browser limitation, not a system issue. Use the Download button if you want to save any file to your computer.

Analysis typically takes 30-90 seconds depending on document length and complexity. You'll see a progress indicator while the analysis is running. Longer documents or those requiring OCR may take additional time.
The primary contract is the main agreement being analyzed - this is what gets scored and reviewed for risks. Supporting documents (exhibits, schedules, amendments, specifications) provide additional context for the AI but aren't separately scored. The AI will identify any conflicts between your main contract and supporting documents.
Analysis & Results
Contract Connection uses advanced AI models trained specifically for construction contract review. While the AI is highly effective at identifying common risk patterns and deviations from industry standards, it should be used as a tool to augment—not replace—legal review. Always have significant contracts reviewed by qualified legal counsel before signing.
Risk scores range from 1-10, where lower scores indicate higher risk. A score of 1-3 means critical issues that should be addressed before signing. A score of 4-6 indicates medium risk with negotiable concerns. A score of 7-10 suggests generally favorable terms. The score is calculated based on the number and severity of flagged issues.
Yes! You can re-run analysis at any time using the "Re-run Analysis" button. This is useful if you've uploaded additional supporting documents or if you want to analyze with different settings. Previous analysis results are preserved for comparison.
Security & Privacy
No. Your documents are never used to train AI models. We use API configurations that explicitly disable training on your data. Your contracts and analysis results belong to you and are not shared with any third parties.
Your data is encrypted both in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). Each user has completely isolated storage with no co-mingling of data. The system architecture is designed for SOC 2 Type II compliance. For more details, visit the Security & Privacy page.
Yes. You can delete individual documents, cases, or analyses at any time. When you delete something, it's permanently removed from the system, including all extracted text and embeddings.
About This Prototype
Contract Connection is a prototype built for the 2026 Hatch-a-thon Competition by Team Laura & Jenny Florey. It demonstrates how AI can help construction professionals review contracts faster by automatically detecting risks and key clauses across 10 standard clause categories.
